Design issues

This garden has a tricky East to West orientation, with shade cast over it for most of the day.

The client's had a rabbit and wanted to retain some grass for it, but were concerned that all the other plants would be at risk.

They are a modern, working couple with no children and wanted a garden that reflected their artistic styles in the home.

Entertaining was very important for them and so a large patio was required.

Low maintenance was a must.

Design solutions

The raised beds answered the rabbit problem and, most importantly, created visual awareness to excite the eye when standing on the patio.

Their sharp lines enhancing the lines of the paths, timber decking and plants.

A rill of grass zig-zagging through the garden links the garage to the patio and therefore softens the hard landscaping, whilst still offering some grazing space for the rabbit.

The planting is bold and contemporary, and exemplifies the mediterranean feel.
